OUR STORY

It all started...

Twelve years ago in Steve Buckee's greenhouse... Steve was a tenant-turned-family-friend who raised succulents and cacti here in Oregon. He established a thriving greenhouse and business called Betty's Bloomers, supplying retail chains and selling to individual customers in the greater Portland area. The best thing about Steve's greenhouse? That he lived in it. Yep, Steve had a carved out a simple living space amidst a plethora of growth and beauty. When I first visited his greenhouse, I unknowingly stepped into my dream.

This ignited in me a passion for plants that would eventually become my business. Soon after that visit, I met my husband (also a plant lover) and we started collecting plants - not to sell, just because we loved them.

As our collection grew...

Steve continued to teach me more and more about my new-found hobby. Pretty soon the plants we had acquired outgrew our home (and our garage). At that point, my husband - being the handy guy that he is - built us a four-season greenhouse. I was in heaven and, soon after, The Succulent Hub was born.

Later, we moved. Naturally, we (meaning he) built a second, larger greenhouse - a four-season, 63' x 34' slice of goodness that is my happy place. It's a tropical paradise. We're already running out of space, so perhaps a second green space is in our future...?

We're constantly working on ways to be more efficient with our use of space in the greenhouse and we now have an automated irrigation system. Time saved watering plants allows me to get creative with arrangements and search for new ways to expand our inventory.

We do life...

On an active farm outside of Baker City, Oregon where we raise Scottish Highland cattle and a variety of goats (find us online at Old Souls Farm).

Our human family has grown since starting my business, as we now have have two boys, Chatam and Sig. They spend lots of time with me in the greenhouse and make sure I don't get too much done.

I love that my business allows me to be home with our boys while playing in the dirt and sunshine. It's hands-on and I get to foster my nurturing and creative side... sure doesn't seem like work to me.

In addition to selling our plants online, we stock plants at a few local shops and can also typically be found at local events like Baker City's Miner's Jubilee and the La Grande Farmer's Market.

Whether you've always had a green thumb or you're hoping to turn your brown thumb green, we'd love to connect with you. We can answer any plant-related questions you might have and even offer in-home plant consultations to help make sure you get the best plant(s) for your space.
